Mérida City Council approves inclusion, mental‑health and cultural projects

The Mérida city council (Cabildo) voted to implement a series of inclusion and cultural measures. It approved the renovation of rehabilitation pools at the La Ceiba recreational center and the creation of a coworking facility in Ciudad Caucel to provide youth with technology access and a supportive environment for mental‑health.

Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada highlighted additional initiatives: installing wheelchair ramps in all city parks, establishing the municipality’s first autism centre, and partnering with Fundación Placemaking México to revitalize public spaces. Council members also authorized cultural collaboration agreements, including funds for senior and emerging creators and a co‑edition contract for eight award‑winning books from the 2025 editorial and poetry contests.

These actions aim to narrow the digital divide, promote social justice for people with disabilities, and enrich Mérida’s cultural identity.
