Mérida inflation hits 4.15% in June, outpacing Mexico's average

The Mexican Institute of Finance Executives (IMEF) Yucatán chapter reported that Mérida's annual inflation rate reached 4.15% in June, well above the national average of 3.37%. IMEF Yucatán President Isaías Marrufo Góngora warned that the higher price growth is eroding local purchasing power, especially for middle‑class households.

Formal employment in the state fell by 3,485 jobs year‑on‑year, with 435,524 workers registered in June, though there was a modest month‑to‑month gain of 947 positions after May. Wholesale and retail sales continued to grow, up 9.4% and 5.2% respectively. The tourism sector showed mixed results: international arrivals rose 3% while domestic tourism contracted, leading to an overall 1% decline in visitors through May. IMEF officials cited the need for higher productivity, stronger local supply chains, and improvements in energy, logistics and infrastructure to break the current economic stagnation.
