Mérida protestor Josefina Ramos González to be hospitalized

The family of 70-year-old Josefina Ramos González has signed an official authorization allowing authorities to remove her protest camp in front of the Government Palace in Mérida, Yucatán. This decision enables her immediate transfer to a hospital for urgent medical attention after she spent several days protesting outdoors in various weather conditions.

Ms. Ramos González began her peaceful demonstration last Thursday to demand a definitive solution to local water supply issues. Her daughters stated the decision to move her was made strictly to protect her health and well-being. The removal of the protest occurs shortly before the arrival of President Claudia Sheinbaum in the state.

While institutional attention and mental health support have been offered, observers have noted the political tension surrounding the event. Discussions have emerged regarding the use of mental health labels to discredit the protestor and unverified claims regarding potential political financing behind her actions.
