Mérida to receive mobile vehicle inspection unit
The Junta de Extremadura is currently searching for a suitable location to install a new mobile vehicle inspection station (ITV) in Mérida. This mobile unit is intended to reinforce the capacity of the city's fixed inspection station, which operates only during morning shifts during the summer months.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport, and Housing has not yet finalized the site, which will determine the official opening date and the number of vehicles the service can accommodate. While the initial plan is for the mobile unit to operate until the end of the year, the authorization may be extended through 2027 depending on demand. The service will be managed by Dekra, which already provides similar reinforcement services in Plasencia, Navalmoral de la Mata, Cáceres, and Badajoz.
In 2025, the fixed station in Mérida conducted 35,467 inspections. Until the mobile unit is operational, the regional government noted that demand can be met by stations in Montijo and Almendralejo, both located less than 30 minutes from Mérida.
