Mérida windstorm tears warehouse roof into high-voltage power lines

A large metal roof from a warehouse, reportedly part of a maquiladora, was torn off by intense winds and became lodged in high-voltage power lines in central Mérida, Yucatán. The incident occurred on 53rd Street between 48th and 50th streets following a 'turbonada' (windstorm) that produced wind gusts exceeding 77 kilometers per hour.

The situation caused electrical sparks and required the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to cut power to the sector to ensure safety. Emergency responders, including the Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos and Civil Protection, coordinated with CFE personnel to remove the structure using a crane. While the incident caused local power outages and required temporary road closures, no injuries were reported.
