José Luís Carneiro discusses Mário Centeno's potential Socialist Party membership

José Luís Carneiro, the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), attended the book launch of former Finance Minister Mário Centeno in Lisbon. During the event, Carneiro praised Centeno as a “great minister of Finance” during a “happy political time.”

When questioned by journalists regarding whether Centeno would join the Socialist Party as a member, Carneiro stated that the decision rests solely with Centeno, noting he was attending simply to respond to a “friend’s invitation.” Centeno confirmed that he and Carneiro have been in frequent communication and dismissed any speculation that he is a political rival to the party leader. The event also included the presence of former Prime Minister António Costa.
