Mário Centeno joins Abanca insurance subsidiary as independent advisor

Abanca has appointed Mário Centeno as an independent advisor to the board of its insurance and pension subsidiary, Abanca Vida y Pensiones. The move is intended to strengthen the company’s corporate governance and strategic direction in response to increasing demand for long-term savings and financial planning solutions.

Centeno brings over 30 years of experience in the financial sector, European fiscal policy, and financial crisis management. His previous roles include serving as the Governor of the Banco de Portugal from 2020 to 2025, a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, and President of the Eurogroup between 2017 and 2020. He also served as Portugal’s Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2020.
