MRT Jakarta to expand TOD and placemaking to Kota Tua

PT MRT Jakarta is expanding its business strategy beyond transportation services through Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and placemaking concepts. Following the revitalization of the Blok M area, the company plans to extend these developments to the Kota Tua and Glodok districts.

The revitalization of Kota Tua aims to transform the area into a high-quality public space that integrates retail, community activities, and local business potential while preserving its historical identity, including its Chinatown and Little Amsterdam heritage. The plan includes making the area safer and more comfortable for pedestrians by limiting private vehicle traffic and potentially introducing trams within the district.

These urban development projects are tied to the completion of the MRT Bundaran HI-Kota line, which is targeted for completion by late 2029. This strategic move aligns with the Jakarta Provincial Government's roadmap to establish Jakarta as one of the world's top 20 global cities by 2045.
