Mrunal Thakur warns of legal action against AI deepfakes

Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur issued a public warning that creating or sharing AI‑generated deepfake content using her likeness is illegal and will be met with legal action. In posts on X and Instagram she urged netizens to document and report accounts that harass or distribute non‑consensual AI‑generated images, calling for a collective “hall of fame” of online bullies.

Her statement joins a growing list of Indian celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan and Shilpa Shetty, who have taken court action against unauthorized AI use. The actress highlighted the broader threat of deepfakes, noting recent viral manipulations of other stars, and called for vigilance as AI tools become more accessible.

Thakur also mentioned her upcoming film projects, notably the Atlee‑directed drama “Raaka” starring Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone, underscoring her continued professional commitments alongside the campaign against deepfake misuse.
