MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina retire from international cricket

On August 15, 2020, Indian cricket legends MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina simultaneously announced their retirements from international cricket. The decision was made while the players were in the Chennai Super Kings' bio-bubble ahead of the IPL 2020 season.

Suresh Raina revealed that the timing was a planned decision. He noted that combining their jersey numbers, 7 and 3, equals 73, which coincided with India completing 73 years of independence on that date. While both players concluded their international careers, Dhoni continued to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings. Raina retired from Indian cricket in 2022 and currently works as a part-time commentator.

MS Dhoni's international career included 350 ODIs, 98 T20Is, and 90 Tests. His final international appearance took place during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.
