MS Dhoni expected to take coaching or mentoring role at CSK

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly undergoing a major leadership transition as they prepare for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Following the departure of long-time head coach Stephen Fleming, the franchise is seeking a replacement to maintain its established dressing room culture.

MS Dhoni is expected to take on a significant new role within the organization, potentially as either the head coach or a mentor. Reports indicate that CSK has paused several pre-season operations while awaiting Dhoni’s decision regarding his future involvement. His transition comes after missing the 2026 season due to injuries.

Dhoni is actively participating in the selection process alongside team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and CEO Kasi Viswanathan. The management is reportedly prioritizing candidates with close personal or professional connections to Dhoni to ensure continuity. Potential candidates include former batting coach Michael Hussey, as well as Dwayne Bravo and Eric Simons.
