MS Dhoni's IPL 2027 participation remains undecided, says CSK CEO

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has expressed optimism regarding MS Dhoni’s potential return to the Indian Premier League for the 2027 season. Despite the 45-year-old veteran missing the entirety of IPL 2026 due to injury concerns, Viswanathan stated that the decision to continue playing rests entirely with Dhoni.

Speaking to media in Chennai, Viswanathan noted, “I have a feeling that the chances of him continuing to play for CSK are there. He is still a player, you know.” He added that Dhoni typically communicates his decision to the franchise upon his arrival in Chennai.

Former CSK player Suresh Raina has also encouraged Dhoni to return for another season, noting that the veteran's absence in 2026 should not preclude a comeback. Additionally, former head coach Stephen Fleming highlighted Dhoni’s ongoing value to the team, emphasizing his significant influence and mentorship of younger players even when not active on the field.
