Ms. Rachel criticizes ICE shooting of father in New York
Children's educator Rachel Griffin Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, has criticized the moral implications of an ICE enforcement operation in New York that left a child traumatized. The incident occurred on October 8 in the Marble Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, when federal officers fired multiple rounds at a vehicle.
According to the NYPD, at least one ICE officer fired seven rounds, striking 28-year-old Oscar Belgal in the neck. Belgal was transported to a hospital in stable condition. A five-year-old boy was inside the vehicle during the shooting; while police reported the child was not physically injured and was later found safe with a family member, Ms. Rachel argued that the child was ‘deeply harmed’ psychologically.
In an Instagram post, Ms. Rachel questioned the compatibility of such violence with American Christian values, stating that a society that ‘terrorizes God’s precious children’ has lost its moral compass. She noted that while the child escaped physical harm, the experience of witnessing his father being shot constitutes profound harm.
