Turkish banks offer retiree promotions up to 35,000 TL
Turkish banks have launched new promotion campaigns for retirees in October 2026, with total benefits reaching up to 35,000 TL. Şekerbank offers the highest potential amount of 35,000 TL, contingent on using various banking products like credit cards and automatic bill payments. ING provides up to 32,000 TL, while Yapı Kredi and DenizBank offer up to 30,000 TL. İş Bankası and Garanti BBVA offer up to 25,000 TL, and QNB offers up to 20,000 TL. These amounts often include a base cash promotion combined with additional rewards for specific services.
Concurrently, political and economic discussions in Turkey highlight rising financial pressures. İYİ Party Leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu criticized the current economic state, noting that the minimum wage has effectively become the general wage due to high inflation. He cited data showing the hunger threshold for a four-person family at 37,801 TL, while the net minimum wage remains at 28,075 TL. Dervişoğlu also addressed the widening gap between labor's share of national income and economic growth.
Financial data also indicates a significant increase in individual debt. Reports show that individual debts rose by 14% over six months, with credit card debt accounting for approximately 60% of this increase. Furthermore, non-performing individual receivables rose by 36.2% during the same period, signaling growing difficulty for citizens to meet their financial obligations.
