MSC and Maersk Announce New Freight and Fuel Fees for Key Trade Routes

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has issued revised Freight All Kinds rates for shipments from South Asia to Europe, effective 16 August 2026. The new tariffs apply to cargo moving from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to the European ports of Antwerp (Belgium) and Valencia (Spain). Rates range from USD 6,050 per twenty‑foot container from Colombo and Chattogram to USD 6,550 for forty‑foot containers from Kolkata, with similar pricing for Indian and Pakistani ports. The published rates cover base ocean freight and selected origin surcharges; additional charges such as bunker recovery, emissions trading, fuel surcharges and terminal handling fees remain separate.

Maersk has introduced a 20 % Intermodal Fuel Fee for landside transportation services in Australia and New Zealand, starting 1 August 2026. The fee, applied to both FMC and non‑FMC shipments, reflects rising global energy prices and ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East. The carrier will review the fee monthly and may adjust it further if market conditions change. Both carriers note that shippers and freight forwarders will need to factor these higher costs into their planning for the upcoming period.
