MSC Group breaks ground on Sandy Cay private island in The Bahamas

MSC Group has officially broken ground on Sandy Cay, a new luxury private island in The Bahamas scheduled to open in 2028. Located adjacent to the existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the destination is being developed exclusively for guests of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.

The project is part of a broader strategic investment by MSC Group in The Bahamas, which is approaching a total of $1.5 billion. This includes developments in Grand Bahama, such as the redevelopment of Grand Lucayan and the transformation of Freeport Harbour.

Sandy Cay is designed to offer a more intimate, wellness-focused experience compared to Ocean Cay. Planned amenities include five beaches, upscale dining venues, private retreats, and expanded relaxation areas. In addition to the new island, MSC announced upgrades to Ocean Cay, including new beach concepts for families and adults, as well as enhanced marine conservation experiences.
