Explora Journeys to enter river cruising with new luxury fleet

Explora Journeys, the luxury brand of the MSC Group, has signed a Letter of Intent with the Dutch Den Breejen Shipyard to construct its first fleet of luxury river cruise ships for the European market. This move marks the brand's expansion from ocean travel into the growing river cruising sector.

While specific details regarding the number of vessels, ship designs, onboard amenities, and exact itineraries have not yet been disclosed, the company plans to open sales for this new offering in 2027. Explora Journeys intends to apply its existing hospitality philosophy and European design aesthetic to these inland waterway voyages.

The expansion occurs as the brand continues to grow its ocean fleet, which includes the Explora I, II, and III. The move into river cruising follows similar strategic shifts by other major players in the industry, such as Celebrity Cruises.
