MSC Group expands Bahamas presence with new island and flagship launch

MSC Group has commenced construction on a second private island in the Bahamas, Sandy Cay. Following a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis, the island is scheduled to open in 2028 to serve passengers of MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys. The development will include dining facilities, beach areas, and recreational zones.

In conjunction with the Sandy Cay project, the company is upgrading its existing destination, Ocean Cay. Improvements include expanding restaurant facilities and beach areas, as well as extending the ship docking pier to double its capacity to handle two cruise ships simultaneously by the end of 2027.

Additionally, MSC Cruises has reached a major milestone with the MSC World Atlantic, its next flagship. The vessel recently underwent its first launch at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. As the fourth LNG-powered ship in the World Class series, the MSC World Atlantic is expected to begin cruises to the Caribbean, including stops at Ocean Cay, in November 2027.
