MSCI Index rebalancing and Greek market trends
The Greek financial market is focused on the upcoming MSCI index rebalancing scheduled for August 12. A primary point of interest is whether Motor Oil will be added to the MSCI Greece Standard Index. Such an inclusion could increase international visibility and provide the company with access to new capital from major institutional investors. Motor Oil's market capitalization is currently approaching 6 billion euros, with a free float estimated at approximately 3.53 billion euros.
Regarding broader market trends, foreign investors were net sellers in the Athens Stock Exchange during July, with net outflows of approximately 160 million euros, while domestic investors remained buyers. In the banking sector, Alpha Bank has recently reached new highs, showing strong performance compared to its peers, while Credit Agricole has seen some pressure despite improved results.
Separately, the OECD has warned that insufficient investment in water security could lead to economic losses of up to 8% of global GDP by 2050. In Europe, the implementation of the EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES) is causing significant delays and long queues at major airports, including Frankfurt, Munich, and Amsterdam, due to new electronic border control requirements.
