MSCI World ETF: Index changes and investment advice

Investors holding MSCI World ETFs are advised against selling existing shares to switch to broader funds, such as All-Country ETFs, due to the high costs of taxes and transaction fees. While broader indices like the MSCI ACWI IMI may offer more diversification by including emerging markets and small-cap stocks, retaining current holdings is recommended to avoid significant capital loss.

Concurrently, MSCI is implementing new index rules that will exclude companies without active business operations from the Global Investable Market Indexes. This change could impact the composition of the MSCI World Index, with a final exclusion list expected on November 11. Any changes would take effect after market close on November 30.

Despite recent market weakness and a slight decline in ETF prices, institutional investors have continued to increase positions in the iShares MSCI World ETF. Recent data indicates significant gross purchases, including increased holdings in major companies such as Nvidia and Apple.
