MSD plans HIV prevention pill access for 129 countries
MSD has announced a strategy to facilitate rapid and sustainable access to alimatravir (MK-8527), an investigational pill for HIV-1 prevention, in 129 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The plan, unveiled ahead of the 26th International AIDS Conference in Rio de Janeiro, includes establishing early generic licensing for the 129 LMICs, supporting regional manufacturing capabilities in Africa and Latin America, and investing in early production to ensure availability in high-need regions. This proactive approach aims to ensure the medication is available as soon as it receives final approval, even as Phase 3 clinical trials continue.
