MSF opens migration testimony exhibition in Dakar
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has opened the “Humans in Transit” exhibition in Dakar, Senegal, documenting the experiences of 400 migrants. The exhibition features testimonies collected by MSF teams over the last decade from detention centers in Libya and search-and-rescue vessels in the Mediterranean.
To protect individuals, identities remain anonymous. The collection utilizes notes, artwork created by artists with firsthand migration and asylum experience, short films, and video narratives. Contributions from artists originating from Afghanistan, Syria, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo highlight issues such as exploitation by smugglers and the dangers of Mediterranean crossings.
Specific accounts include a plea for help from an 11-year-old Senegalese boy held in a Libyan detention center, and the story of a 25-year-old Eritrean man who fled conflict in Yemen and faced abuse in Libya after paying $6,000 to reach the country via Sudan.
