MSI launches Katana 15 HX gaming laptop with RTX 5070

MSI has launched the Katana 15 HX C14 gaming laptop, featuring a more compact design that is 10.2% thinner and 12.5% lighter than its predecessor. The hardware configuration includes the Intel Core i9-14900HX 24-core processor and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR7 memory, supporting technologies like ray tracing and DLSS 4.5.

In a notable move to manage costs amid high DRAM pricing, MSI is offering two distinct memory configurations: DDR5 and DDR4-3200. While the DDR5 version provides higher bandwidth, the DDR4 option allows for lower-priced SKUs. Both versions utilize two SO-DIMM slots and support up to 96GB of RAM, though the memory standards are not interchangeable due to different electrical designs.

The laptop features various display options, including a QHD 165 Hz version with DCI-P3 coverage or a Full HD 144 Hz version with 100% sRGB. Thermal management is handled by the Cooler Boost system, utilizing two fans and three heat pipes to manage a combined CPU and GPU power draw of up to 170W.
