MSI OLED monitor undergoes 8,000-hour extreme burn-in test

A long-term durability test of the MSI MPG 321URX OLED monitor has revealed the effects of 8,000 hours of extreme use. Conducted by TechSpot journalist Tim Schiesser, the test intentionally bypassed safety precautions, such as dark mode and taskbar auto-hide, to accelerate pixel degradation.

After 30 months, the monitor remains functional but shows visible signs of wear. The most prominent issue is a phenomenon described as reverse burn-in, where a bright strip remains visible between two static windows that were used for most of the testing period. Additionally, the monitor's maximum brightness decreased by approximately 5%.

While the device is still usable, the results suggest that OLED monitors are not ideal for office work involving static windows and are better suited for gaming and film consumption.
