ETECSA reorganizes investments amid Cuba energy crisis

ETECSA, Cuba's state telecommunications company, is reorganizing its financial investments and resource allocation in response to ongoing energy shortages and economic challenges. The company reported that the instability of the National Electric System (SEN) has severely impacted its infrastructure, leading to service disruptions in mobile coverage, fixed telephony, and internet connectivity.

During a recent major power failure, ETECSA noted that over 80% of its radio base sites and nearly 70% of its cabinets were interrupted. This resulted in internet traffic losses of approximately 58% compared to similar periods. The company also cited inflation and fuel shortages as complicating factors.

Regarding customer impact, ETECSA stated it has no mechanism to provide refunds or compensation for data packages or balances lost during service outages or periods of slow connectivity. Additionally, the company highlighted that current revenues from fixed telephony are insufficient to cover its operational and maintenance costs.
