MST and supporters call for mobilization following Brazilian election victory

The Landless Workers' Movement (MST) and various political supporters have issued calls for continued mobilization following the election of President Lula. The MST characterized the recent electoral outcome as a victory against an extreme-right project that they claim seeks to subordinate Brazil and Latin America to international capital and big tech interests.

Supporters emphasize that despite the electoral win, significant challenges remain. These include facing a Congress dominated by conservative interests, addressing economic issues such as the Selic interest rate, and reforming the Judiciary and Legislative branches. The MST specifically called for land reform to be a central part of the administration's legacy, aiming to settle 100,000 families and expand agroecological production.

Commentators also noted that the upcoming administration must function as a coalition government, as the Brazilian population is not majority left-wing. There is a stated need for constant vigilance to protect democratic institutions and national symbols against perceived threats from far-right factions.
