MST launches 16 independent candidacies for Brazilian elections
The Landless Workers' Movement (MST) has launched 16 independent candidacies for state and federal parliamentary positions across 13 Brazilian states. This strategic move aims to secure institutional representation to advance land reform, family farming, and food sovereignty.
The movement's platform includes 15 political guidelines focused on democratizing land access, combating hunger, and promoting environmental sustainability. The MST has previously seen success in local elections, having supported 133 candidates for various municipal offices across 19 states.
In Paraná, MST militants recently met to strengthen organizational efforts for upcoming elections, reaffirming support for President Lula and several legislative candidates. Additionally, renowned singer-songwriter Chico Buarque has publicly endorsed the MST's candidates, citing their commitment to collective values, humanism, and social justice.
