Borussia Dortmund eyes €9 million from Japan preseason tour

Borussia Dortmund undertook a preseason tour of Japan from July 26 to August 2, 2026, playing friendlies against Cerezo Osaka and FC Tokyo. The club expects the tour to generate roughly €9 million (about 500 million yen) in revenue, with matchday income and fees from sponsor‑related events accounting for most of the sum. Negotiations are underway with Japanese corporations such as Panasonic and Mitsubishi for multi‑million‑euro sponsorship deals that could continue beyond the tour.

The team faced challenging summer conditions, with temperatures reaching 38 °C and humidity up to 85 %. Players adjusted their routines, including late‑night meals and early‑morning bedtimes, to cope with jet lag. In the Osaka test match the side lost 0‑1 to Cerezo Osaka. The club estimates about €5 million of the total earnings will flow directly into its finances, while the tour also serves to expand the fan base, boost merchandise sales and reinforce Dortmund’s brand in the Asian market.
