Mt. Lebanon police investigate apparent murder-suicide of father and two children

Authorities in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a father and his two young children. Patrick Lynch, 42, along with his children, 8-year-old James Lynch and 6-year-old Caroline Lynch, died Tuesday afternoon following an apparent fall from a parking garage.

Allegheny County Police reported that the Homicide Unit responded to the scene around 4:16 p.m. after finding three unresponsive individuals in the street. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but all three were pronounced dead at the scene. Mt. Lebanon Police Chief Jason Haberman stated that investigators are treating the incident “not as an accident.”

Reports indicate that 6-year-old Caroline Lynch had been battling Williams syndrome, a rare genetic disorder affecting growth, cognition, and the cardiovascular system, as well as heart and lung disease. While the specific circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, police have stated there is no ongoing danger to the community.
