MTA announces station rehabilitation completions and new upgrades

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced progress on several transit infrastructure projects. In New York City, subway rehabilitation work at the 138 St-Grand Concourse station is complete. The upgrades included repainting and retiling over 35,000 square feet of surfaces, replacing damaged concrete and vinyl flooring, and installing 1,000 feet of LED rope lighting to improve safety and aesthetics.

Separately, the MTA is moving the Port Washington Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station rehabilitation project into the design phase. This major project aims to modernize the nearly 130-year-old station by reconstructing ramps, sidewalks, and ADA parking areas, as well as expanding restrooms. Planned improvements also include replacing the station roof, platform canopies, and the existing pedestrian overpass with an enclosed version featuring new elevators. The project will also extend two nearby yard tracks to increase train storage capacity.
