MTA completes elevator replacement at Coney Island-Stillwell Av station
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced the opening of a modernized elevator at the Coney Island-Stillwell Av subway station in Brooklyn. This project is part of a broader accessibility and safety initiative, marking the 25th elevator replacement completed by the agency in 2026.
The new elevator serves the platform to the line overpass at a station that accommodates nearly 9,000 riders every weekday. The upgrade involved a full replacement of the elevator cab and associated equipment within the shaft and pit to ensure more reliable service for older adults, caregivers, and people with disabilities.
In a separate development regarding MTA elevator projects, riders at the Yankee Stadium subway station continue to face reliability issues despite a $26.7 million overhaul of five elevators. Records indicate that these new elevators logged 41 outages between April and September, including 35 unplanned interruptions.
