MTA fare inspectors filmed manhandling Brooklyn school dean

Four MTA “EAGLE” fare inspectors were filmed physically manhandling Kyle Taylor, a dean at Mott Bridges Academy, during a dispute over a $3 fare on a B14 bus in Brooklyn. Video footage shows inspectors forcing Taylor off the bus and slamming him against a bus shelter, pinning him against the glass before throwing him to the sidewalk.

Taylor’s attorney, Benjamin Pinczewski, stated that his client had paid the fare using a pretax transit card and a paper transfer on a previous bus, and maintains that receipts exist to prove payment. Taylor was hospitalized with injuries to his back, neck, shoulder, arm, and elbow following the October 6 incident.

The rider advocacy group Passengers United has called for the suspension of the MTA’s fare inspection program and has requested an investigation by Attorney General Letitia James. While an NYPD officer eventually intervened to separate the parties, no arrests were made, and both Taylor and one of the inspectors have filed harassment complaints.
