MTerra Solar begins commercial operations in the Philippines

MTerra Solar has commenced commercial operations for its Phase 1 facility in the Philippines, delivering 600 megawatts alternating current (MWac) of mid-merit capacity to Meralco. The project follows the issuance of a Final Certificate of Approval to Connect from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, confirming the facility meets safety requirements to operate 950 MWac of solar capacity and an 825 MW battery energy storage system.

A joint investment between Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) and Actis, the project represents the largest foreign direct investment for a greenfield infrastructure project in the Philippines to date, with Actis contributing $600 million. Once fully completed, the facility is designed to provide 3,500 MWp of solar PV capacity paired with 4,500 MWh of battery storage.

The initiative supports the Philippine government's goal to increase the renewable energy share in the national power mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040. The project is expected to supply clean energy to approximately 2.4 million households and reduce annual carbon emissions by 4.3 million tonnes.
