MTG-I2 weather satellite successfully launched

The MTG-I2 meteorological imaging satellite was successfully launched from the Guiana Space Centre via an Ariane 62 rocket. Built by Thales Alenia Space, the satellite is part of the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) program, a joint initiative between the European Space Agency (ESA) and EUMETSAT.

Designed to enhance weather forecasting across Europe and Africa, the MTG-I2 will operate in geostationary orbit. It features a next-generation flexible combined imager (FCI) that will allow for high-resolution imagery of Europe every 2.5 minutes, significantly increasing the frequency and precision of meteorological data compared to previous systems.
