Mthandeni Dube missing amid investigation into alleged pardon breach
His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) has launched a formal investigation into an alleged audio recording purportedly featuring Mthandeni Dube, a former Member of Parliament currently out on a Special Royal Pardon. The recording, which allegedly involves Dube mocking the death of the late Chief Justice Bheki Maphalala, may constitute a violation of his release conditions, which explicitly prohibit participation in press or social media activities.
During an inquiry visit to Dube’s Ngwempisi homestead to investigate the matter, HMCS officials were unable to locate him. Family members reported that Dube had left for an unknown destination several days prior and they have been unable to establish contact. While social media has seen various claims regarding his location, officials have noted these include unverified sightings and old photographs.
HMCS stated that an enquiry team is working to establish the authenticity of the recording and determine if any conditions of Dube’s pardon have been breached. The department emphasized that the investigation must follow established procedures to ensure facts are verified before any conclusions are reached regarding his status.
