MTHCON26 conference explores AI's impact on media

At the MTHCON26 conference held at Studio Babelsberg near Berlin, over 80 international experts gathered to discuss the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the media landscape. Speakers from journalism, television, and the technology sector examined the current state of AI and its future implications.

A central theme of the discussion was European digital sovereignty. Marion Ranchet, founder of ‘Streaming Made Easy’, suggested that while full sovereignty for European media may no longer be achievable due to dominant US tech giants, the region should strive for ‘selective sovereignty’ by focusing on high-quality content.

Experts also addressed the evolving role of human skill in the age of automation. Software architect Edward Dawson-Taylor noted that while AI is becoming a foundational tool, it cannot replace human expertise. He emphasized that professionals will need to combine specialized subject knowledge with AI competence to remain effective.
