MTN CEO Ralph Mupita Calls for Greater Economic Opportunity Across Africa
At the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation (KMF) Winter Seminar, MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita told a gathering of government, business, diplomatic, academic and civil‑society leaders that Africa’s long‑term prosperity depends more on expanding economic opportunities, strengthening regional integration and enabling broader participation than on migration policy alone. He urged governments to adopt predictable policies and regulations so businesses can allocate capital, and warned that focusing on migration as a crisis treats only a symptom, not the deeper challenge of uneven opportunity.
Mupita highlighted that Africa’s demographic dividend will translate into economic growth only if countries invest in skills, infrastructure, finance, markets and institutions. He emphasized MTN’s belief that the continent’s strength lies in connectivity – not just through networks but through people, ideas and shared identity – and called for building bridges rather than borders.
