MTN Group expands digital fintech and network infrastructure in Africa

MTN Group Fintech is migrating its mobile money service, MoMo, to a cloud-native architecture as part of its Ambition 2030 strategy. In partnership with Ericsson, the company has initiated this transition in Eswatini, Ghana, Rwanda, and Uganda. The migration aims to modernize digital financial infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and support increasing transaction volumes.

The rollout is expected to eventually include all 16 of MTN’s African markets, with ongoing projects in Cameroon and planned expansions in the Republic of the Congo, Benin, and Zambia.

Separately, MTN Ghana is investing $1.1 billion over the next three years to enhance network capacity and infrastructure resilience. This investment includes the deployment of 500 new sites nationwide, with a specific focus on strengthening connectivity in the Northern, Savannah, Upper East, and North East regions of Ghana.
