MTN Group meets IMF on Africa’s digital economy while MTN Ghana flags global supply‑chain risks

MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita met with International Monetary Fund officials, including Dan Katz, in South Africa to discuss the macro‑economic outlook for the group’s key markets – South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana – and the role of the digital economy in driving sustainable growth across the continent. The meeting highlighted the importance of global partnerships for accelerating Africa’s digital transformation under MTN’s Ambition 2030 strategy.

In Ghana, MTN reported a strong first‑half 2026 performance. Revenue rose 32.3% year‑on‑year to ₵15 billion, EBITDA increased 39.8% to ₵9.3 billion and profit after tax grew 43.3% to ₵5.1 billion. The subscriber base expanded 8.5% to 32.8 million, with data users reaching 19.9 million and mobile‑money users 18.3 million. CEO Stephen Blewett warned that external factors – geopolitical tensions, supply‑chain disruptions and trade fragmentation – could outweigh domestic economic stability and pose significant risks to future growth.
