MTN Omondi Stadium cleared for UPL matches amid lighting restrictions

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has granted temporary clearance for MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo to host Uganda Premier League (UPL) matches. Following a re-inspection, the facility was upgraded to a Category 1 status after repairs were made to the playing surface, including the installation of temporary artificial turf patches in goal areas.

Despite the clearance, FUFA has prohibited night matches at the stadium until the floodlighting system is upgraded to meet a minimum illumination level of 800 lux. Additionally, the temporary approval for the playing surface is set to expire on December 31, 2026.

In preparation for the 2026/27 season, Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA FC) is planning a multi-faceted season opener at the stadium. The club’s “4-in-1” event will include the launch of official playing kits, the unveiling of the club bus ‘The Impala’, the presentation of the squad and new signings, and a pre-season friendly match designed to enhance fan engagement and commercial value.
