MTN supports digital entrepreneurship and local business growth in South Africa and Nigeria
MTN South Africa Foundation has launched the fifth edition of its Women in Digital Business Challenge. The initiative targets black women-owned ICT and digital businesses, providing funding, mentorship, skills training, and market access to foster inclusive economic growth and job creation in South Africa’s digital economy.
Since its inception in 2022, the program has supported 40 businesses, which have collectively generated over R14.7 million in revenue and created or sustained 173 jobs. The challenge is delivered in partnership with the EBL Institute of Business and Technology, Datacomb Development Hub, and the National Youth Development Agency.
In Nigeria, MTN’s 25-year presence has been highlighted for its role in transforming indigenous businesses. During a session organized with the Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce, stakeholders discussed how the company’s integration into the local market through procurement and technology partnerships has strengthened domestic capacity. Business leaders noted that such Nigerian-South African corporate relationships can empower African companies to meet international standards and compete in the global economy.
