MTN, Telecel, and Goal qualify for Ghana 5G spectrum auction
Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has qualified three companies to advance in the country’s first competitive 5G spectrum auction. MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and Goal Telecommunications successfully passed the eligibility and technical qualification assessments for spectrum in the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, and 3 GHz bands.
A fourth applicant, Infrava Ltd, failed to meet the qualification requirements and was disqualified from the process. Consequently, Infrava’s financial bid will not be opened. The three successful bidders will now move to the next stage, where their Best Price Offers will be opened and ranked.
This auction marks a shift in Ghana’s telecommunications strategy. Previously, a single-operator model existed under Next Gen Infraco Limited, but the government revoked that exclusive mandate earlier this year to encourage a more competitive market and accelerate the rollout of 5G services.
