MTST Solidarity Kitchens featured in new documentary
The documentary ‘Vem Comer com a Gente – Cozinhas Solidárias’, directed by Thomaz Pedro, explores the evolution of the Solidarity Kitchens initiative created by the MTST (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Teto). Originally established in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic to address food insecurity in peripheral areas, the initiative has since transitioned into a national public policy to combat hunger.
The film premieres on September 17 at the Espaço Petrobrás de Cinema in São Paulo and will be available online until October 2. It documents the social and political impact of these spaces, which serve as community hubs for organization and solidarity.
Currently, there are 1,406 enabled kitchens and 221 third-sector managing entities. Approximately 13 million meals have been distributed, utilizing roughly 21 tons of food from family farming.
