Taylor Swift breaks VMA record at 2026 awards ceremony
The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by Snoop Dogg, featured several historic milestones. Taylor Swift became the most awarded artist in the ceremony's history, surpassing Beyoncé's record of 30 awards. Swift secured her 31st Moonman by receiving the inaugural Artist Director Honors, alongside wins for Video of the Year for ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ and Best Direction for ‘Opalite’. During the event, she also premiered the music video for her new single ‘Patient Zero’, starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.
Madonna was another major figure of the night, winning seven awards, including Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration for ‘Bring Your Love’ with Sabrina Carpenter. Her appearance marked her first live performance at the VMAs in 23 years. Other notable winners included Nirvana, who received the Video Vanguard Award, and BTS, who won Song of the Year for ‘Swim’. LISA of BLACKPINK also achieved a significant milestone by winning Best Pop for ‘Dream’.
The ceremony included various performances and tributes, such as Kacey Musgraves honoring Dolly Parton and a musical medley by Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli XCX. The event was slightly delayed due to an NFL broadcast on CBS.
