Muş Alparslan University Rector defends sheep photo amid controversy

Mustafa Alican, the Rector of Muş Alparslan University, has addressed controversy surrounding a social media post featuring a flock of sheep. The post, which included the caption, “Muş Alparslan University’s flock is on morning duty. Thanks for showing this day,” drew criticism from various social media users and members of the AKP.

In response to the backlash, Professor Alican clarified that the sheep in the photograph are the result of a scientific hybridization project conducted at the university’s Livestock Studies Application and Research Center. He stated that Muş Alparslan University has been designated as a pilot state university for livestock, and the project aims to develop a new sheep breed specific to the region by crossbreeding three different breeds.

Alican noted that the project is nearing its final stages. However, critics have pointed out that the research center’s official website is currently returning errors, making it difficult to access comprehensive information regarding the project.
