Jakarta unrest leads to death and facility damage

Following demonstrations near the DPR/MPR RI Building in Jakarta on August 27, 2026, police have reported significant unrest caused by rioters. Polda Metro Jaya stated that while initial peaceful protests by groups such as AMPB Pati concluded orderly, subsequent groups arrived to engage in vandalism and arson.

Reports indicate that rioters damaged and burned public facilities, including the main gates of the DPR/MPR building and a police post under the Slipi Flyover. In the Pejompongan area, two motorcycles were reportedly taken from a police post and burned.

Tragically, one male citizen died following the unrest. He was reportedly found unconscious during the riots and was evacuated by the Biddokkes Polda Metro Jaya to RS TNI AL Dr. Mintohardjo, where he later passed away. Police are seeking to determine the exact cause of death through an autopsy, though the family has expressed objections to the procedure.
