Mubadala invests $1 billion in Luckin Coffee

Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi-based sovereign wealth fund, has agreed to a strategic minority investment in Luckin Coffee Inc. The transaction, made alongside controlling shareholder Centurium Capital, is valued at approximately $1 billion.

The investment targets the expanding Chinese coffee market, where consumer demand for freshly brewed coffee is increasing. Luckin Coffee, founded in 2017, utilizes a technology-driven retail model characterized by a large store footprint, digital customer engagement, and an integrated supply chain.

Mohamed Albadr, Mubadala’s Head of Asia Private Equity, noted that the company’s combination of scale and digital capabilities allows it to respond rapidly to evolving consumer preferences. Centurium Capital’s Michael Chen expressed confidence that Mubadala’s global network and industry expertise will support the company’s long-term innovation and growth.
