Mucunski seeks guarantees for North Macedonia EU negotiations

North Macedonian Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski stated that the country is seeking a sustainable solution to begin negotiations for European Union accession. He emphasized two essential requirements: obtaining clear guarantees through constitutional amendments with deferred application or receiving formal guarantees from EU institutions.

Mucunski also called for international legal reciprocity regarding human rights. He noted that while Bulgaria expects the Bulgarian minority to be included in the North Macedonian Constitution, Bulgaria must respect European Court of Human Rights rulings concerning the fundamental human rights of Macedonians living in Bulgaria.

The Minister criticized previous government solutions as unsustainable and potentially harmful to European integration, asserting that the current proposals must avoid creating further crises.
