Mucuri decentralizes HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis access

The Mucuri Municipal Health Secretariat is initiating the decentralization of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to its Basic Health Units (UBS). This move aims to expand access to one of the primary HIV prevention strategies provided by the Unified Health System (SUS) within the municipality.

Following a technical meeting in Teixeira de Freitas, the plan will allow residents to receive guidance, monitoring, and medication directly at local primary care units. This strategy is intended to eliminate the need for travel to specialized services and strengthen the role of primary care as the entry point for health services. The implementation process will include staff training and the organization of service workflows to ensure quality and safety.
