Mucuri road upgrade and Currais Novos waste rules signal Brazil's municipal infrastructure push

The municipality of Mucuri in Bahia has undertaken a major renovation of the Jacutinga road that links the BA‑698 highway to the rural community. The project includes resurfacing, adding gravel, raising low‑lying sections, rebuilding culverts and widening the carriageway to improve year‑round traffic, support small‑holder farms and reduce logistics costs. Mayor Roberto Carlos Figueiredo Costa highlighted the work as essential for safety, agricultural productivity and rural development.

In Currais Novos, Paraíba, the city government has issued new guidelines for the proper disposal of construction and demolition debris. Under municipal regulations, such waste is not considered ordinary garbage and must be collected through a paid service requested from the municipal infrastructure department. The rules prohibit dumping debris on streets, sidewalks or vacant land and aim to protect urban mobility, the environment and public safety.
